The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program in Chitwan Medical College was initiated with its first batch of 80 students on Mangshir, 2066 BS. This program is a five-and-a-half-year (5½ year) course, with four and a half years of study followed by a year of compulsory internship. The program is designed to produce physicians who are knowledgeable of the principles of modern medical science and who have mastered the art of critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process in order to engage in the practice of medicine as competent professionals.
The MBBS curriculum that is followed at CMC is a community-oriented curriculum and has integrated teaching-learning activities. It has been developed to provide learning opportunities enabling medical students to acquire fundamental knowledge develop basic skills and appreciate principles relevant to health care in the context of the community.
